B QUALITY REMINGTON HEPBURN No. 3 MATCH RIFLE.

Cal. 38-40 Remington Hepburn. S# 2928. The "B" quality was the higher grade of Hepburn rifle and had fancy wood and better sights. The 28" half round half octagon bbl. has Remington name and address stamped on top. Cal. marking "38" is on bottom. Bbl. is uncut for rear sight dovetail and is fitted with windage adjustable globe front sight without spirit level. Serial number is on bottom flat under forend. Case hardened Hepburn action is unmarked on sides and is not serial numbered. It is fitted with double set triggers. A mid range vernier sight is on top tang. Round knob buttstock of attractively crotch figured American walnut is fitted with brass swiss style offhand buttplate, high comb, and small swept cheekpiece. Checkering at grip is of semi fancy pattern. Matching checkered forend has schnabled steel tip. CONDITION: good to fine as partially refinished, bbl. retaining most of what appears to be a good quality rust reblue. Action retaining a considerable amount, as much as 20%, original case hardening color is mostly mottled gray and brown. Trigger guard and tang considerably browned. Stocks retain most of what appears to be their original oil finish with a few minor marks and one or two fairly deep gouges on butt. Checkering is somewhat worn, especially on forend. Bore is fair to good. Fairly shiny with scattered pitting, mostly at breech end. Mechanically good. (01-21587/MGM). ANTIQUE. $6,500-9,500.
