SN: V39738. WW2 British 1945 dated bolt action sniper rifle with No. 32 Mk I scope and mount. Used from WW2 into the early 1960's until they were replaced by the L42 series sniper rifles. The left butt-socket is marked 'm47 C 1945 V39738TR England', the left receiver side wall is marked 'T'. The sniper scope is marked 'Tel. Stg. No.32 Mk3OS. 2039 A. CTS No. 21147' There is a "B' stenciled in blue paint beneath this. The scope has the standard British post and cross hair reticle pattern, and the brown leather lens cover. The mount is marked 'P 33160" and the rings are stamped '112' and '113' respectively. The underside of the buttstock is stamped with the standard makers mark of 'S 51', with proofs and acceptance marks. The top flat of the wrist is stamped '28184'. The underside of the forestock is stamped with matching serial number 39738 with various proofs and Broad Arrow. Matching serial number on the bolt handle. The comb is fitted with a wood cheekpiece secured with two wood screws. 10 rd magazine, brass buttplate. Birmingham proof house tag attached to rifle. Absolutely correct, rifles came to Holland & Holland after giving better than average zeroing groups after test firing at the B.S.A and Maltby factories, then earmarked as possible sniper rifles by having the 'TR' stamp. Once it passed the final test it was stamped with the 'T', and the "S51", Holland & Holland's wartime code.. The bore is excellent/.bright, action is crisp/tight, the matte black/blue finish is excellent, and the wood is near excellent with a few very minor dings, the buttstock is a little darker than the rest. Comes with the No.15 Mk I green painted wood transit chest with intact leather carrying straps, labels, metal No. 8 Mk I scope case with label, carrying strap. Also included is a book on these rifles. Consignor bought this rifle from Centennial Arms Corp , Chicago on 9-1-1967 for $77.75, and has been in his possession ever since.
