BARRELS. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 5/8". S# 534. Bbls. steel 30 3/16" are marked “BAKER GUN CO. MAKERS. BATAVIA. N.Y.” on concave matted rib with extension. Bbl. flats are stamped with serial number “48158”. Lump is not pierced or fitted with recoil lugs. Sidelock action with mortices for recoil lugs features automatic safety, pivoting fastener and double triggers. Action is engraved with sprays of well cut scroll which surrounds a scene of flying and standing woodcock on triggerplate. Fences are more deeply engraved with large scroll. Lockplates have more sprays of scroll surrounding dog scenes with pair of pointers on left and setters on right. “Baker Gun Co” is at bottom of each lockplate. Trigger guard is engraved with monogram “JLG”?. This treatment is original and this gun was most likely originally custom ordered. Newer capped long pistolgrip buttstock of attractively marbled and lightly figured European walnut measures 14 1/2" over “Baker Gun Co” logo buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Forend with original wood and fairly fancy checkering pattern has shaped ebony tip and J-spring release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .720", L .722". Restriction: R .008" (IC), L .019" (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: R .032", L .040". STOCK: DAH: 2 3/16". DAC: 1 3/4". LOP: 14 1/2". CAST: neutral. WEIGHT: 8 lb. CONDITION: good as refurbished. Bbls. retaining most of an old reblack with edges slightly rounded and have been fairly well fitted, except rib is a bit high and locking lug has been taken down to fit action. Action and locks are pewter gray patina with some minor marks and dings. Newer buttstock retains most of its original finish. Checkering is relatively fresh. Original wood of forend has been refinished and checkering recut. Bores are bright and shiny, polished over some minor frosting in both tubes. Action is tight. Mechanically good. (01-20984/MGM).
