BEAUTIFUL PAIR OF CASED ENGLISH LARGE BORE
FLINTLOCK DUELING PISTOLS, CIRCA 1820. Cal. 22 Bore (approx .60 cal). Bbls. 10" Oct. smoothbore w/ 2 gold bands signed in script on top flats "B. Sturman London" Fine engraved case hardened locks w/ waterproof pans & rear mounted sliding safeties are engraved "B. Sturman" & have dbl. lined borders. Cocks are engraved en suite w/ bridled roller frizzens. Trigger plates have pineapple finials. Trigger bows have initials “HB” engraved in old English script. Lightly figured European walnut stocks w/ rounded butts have bag grips & fine wrap around checkering. There are vacant rectangular thumb plates at top of grips. Stocks have engraved silver nose caps/thimbles which accept iron tipped wood ramrods w/ iron thimbles attached to bottom bbl. ribs. Bbls. attach to stocks w/ side keys through oval silver escutcheons. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: mahogany case has "D-Ring" brass handle w/ key lock. Interior is lined w/ green baize. Accessories include a steel 25 bore mold, 2 piece loading mallet, 3 compartment brass flask, screwdriver, & brush. CONDITION: fine. Both pistols retain most all their refinished brown bbl. finish, some original case colors to locks, breeches & cocks. Much original varnish to stocks, & traces of original blue to trigger guards. Bores are excellent & bright. Locks are crisp & mechanics are fine. Case is solid w/ cosmetic blemishes, & dbl. clasps hold case closed, key is missing to central lock. Baize lining faded & soiled.
