Cal. 8 Bore (.850"). NSN. Bbl. 48" rnd. w/ oct. shank of twist steel. Top flat is Birmingham marked w/ partially legible, that appears to start w/ "S" & ends in "FIELD". Unmarked island lock & percussion hammer w/ arabesque scroll engraving that continues to extended top tang. Half length straight grip walnut stock fastened by 2 bolts w/ iron escutcheons. Stock featured wrist & forearm w/ engraved brass trigger guard & German silver nose cap having German silver presentation plate in toeline. LOP: 14 1/8" over brass shotgun butt. Brass tipped hardwood ramrod held on iron under rib by a faceted brass thimble & 2 plain iron pipes. Weight: 14 lbs. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to brown patina showing visible twist pattern w/ spots of pitting that is heaviest in breech area. Stock has dark worn appearance w/ dents & handling marks having cracks & chips at lock & sideplate areas. Modern replacement nipple. Ramrod shows lg. chips w/ brass & wrapped repairs. Sound lock. Dark pitted bore. (01-18085/DS). ANTIQUE. $700-1,000.
