"JOS HILL" IN FINE ORIGINAL CONDITION. Cal. 12 bore w/ 10 Ga. chamber. NSN. Hundreds of thousands of these guns were made in Belgium & Britain during the 1880s to 1900 & were sold through varying catalog outlets like Sears Roebuck & retailed for as little as $7. Most are used hard & put away wet & examples in good condition are relatively few. This gun is a decent quality British example in good condition. This gun has 31 3/4" twist steel bbls. marked "London Fine Damascus" on rib. Bottoms of bbls. stamped w/ Birmingham black powder proofs & for 12 Ga.(chambers are for 10 Ga.) & "Iron Damascus". Case hardened top lever action fitted w/ front spring locks w/ serpentine hammers. Action engraved w/ 50% coverage, rudimentary scroll w/ in geometric borders. Each lock engraved "JOS HILL". Rnd. knob pistol grip buttstock of relatively plain European walnut measures 14 1/4" over checkered horn buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip & vacant German silver oval is on toeline. Matching splinter forend w/ inlet horn tip has friction "sugar tong" release. MEASUREMENTS: BARRELS: Bore diameter: Right .745", Left .744". Restriction: Right 0" (CYL), Left 0" (CYL). STOCK: LOP: 14 1/4". DAC: 1 3/4-". DAH: 2 1/2". Cast: 0. WEIGHT: 9 lb. 3 oz. CONDITION: fine. Bbls. retaining approx. 80% original brown w/ some scattered minor patches of rust. Action & locks retain approx. 70-80% original case hardening color. Stocks have nearly all of their original finish. Bores are bright & shiny. Locks are operable. (01-19327/MGM). ANTIQUE. $400-600.
