BRITISH P1801 BAKER RIFLE BAYONET.
A scarce example of a 2nd pattern British Baker rifle bayonet. Overall length of bayonet: 27 9/16”. Blade length: 22 3/4". Plain flat blade heavily stamped near the ricasso with a crowned royal cypher with a “1” in the center. Brass hilt with a rounded languet & rounded knuckle bow. Ribbed grip is integral to the pommel. Incorrect brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has an overall dark patina with a small amount of pitting near the tip. Hilt is a bit loose and has a dark patina. The spring is complete but rusted & frozen. The scabbard is quite solid with a deep patina on the mounts but, again, is not correct for this bayonet. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18532/BF). $300-500.
