BROWNING MIDAS GRADE SUPERPOSED TWO BARREL SET
WITH FINE ENGRAVING AND GOLD INLAY BY LOUIS BLEUS WITH CASE. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 16020S69. Two bbl. sets; one 26 3/8" marked for "skeet"{ the other 28" marked for "Mod" & "Full" w/ matching S#'s. Bbls. are fitted w/ medium matted ventilated ribs & marked w/ St. Louis & Montreal addresses. Semi-relief scroll engraving is at breech ends. Blued superposed action is fitted w/ gold plated single selective trigger. Action is engraved w/ nicely cut large open shaded scroll w/ acanthus highlights. Scroll surrounds relief gold inlaid game birds on sides in well detailed backgrounds inside flush gold inlaid scrolling borders in usual Midas fashion: a trio of pheasant fly into open field on left side, & a trio of ducks take wing from woodland pool on right. A gold quail flies across bottom of action. It appears that both scroll & game scenes were done by Bleus whose signature appears at bottom rear both sides of action. Nicely crotch figured Claro walnut short tang round knob buttstock measures 14 1/8 over Browning white line pad. Fancy pattern checkering w/ flourishes into butt wraps over top of grip. Both forends match well. Chokes are unaltered. DAH: 2 5/16"+. DAC: 1 1/2". 28" Bbls.: WEIGHT: 7 lbs. 10 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Tan Hartmann case lined in faux fur has space for gun & both bbl. sets. Case contains 2 invector choke tubes obviously not for this gun. CONDITION: fine. Bbls. retain nearly all of their original blue w/ some marks & nicks along ribs & some scratches toward muzzles of shorter bbls. Action retains over 95% of its original blue w/ some high edge wear & a few scratches, most notably a fairly deep scratch on top right fence. Stocks retain nearly all of their varnish finish w/ a bump or two & some light marks on butt. Checkering dark at grip. There is no evidence of salt damage in metal. There is however some darkening of wood at juncture of buttstock and action from oil soaking. These areas also have some crazing of finish. (Wood not tested for salt.) There is also a small crack w/ lifted varnish at left rear of top tang. Bright shiny bores. Mechanically fine. Case has some soiling & marks. Interior has light soiling. There are some rubs & rips in partitions which are loose. A lot of gun for the money. (20-1180/MGM160). CURIO. $5,000-8,000.
