Berlin Lubecker S/237 Kar 98k Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #715c, 8x57mm cal., 23.6" barrel, blued finish, laminated stock with handguard, flat buttplate, dovetailed inverted-"V" front sight, and adjustable tangent rear sight with "V"-notch, graduated to 2000 meters. Includes steel cleaning rod, painted black, and marked with a faint "8". Top of the receiver ring is marked clearly with "S/237" over "1938". Top of the barrel shank is marked "7,92". Left side receiver rail is marked "Mod.98". Left side of the receiver and barrel with Nazi eagle firing proofs. Right side of the receiver ring with "(eagle/swastika)WaA 211, "(eagle/swastika)26", "(eagle/swastika)26". Right side of the barrel with three small "(eagle)26" Waffenamts below the rear sight, as well as two on right side of the cocking piece, and another on the rear sight leaf. Rear sight slide is marked "(eagle)/280" and "42". Rifle has early front sight block band without slots for sight hood, milled "H" style front barrel band, milled trigger guard and magazine floorplate; both stamped "(eagle)26". Right side of the buttstock is stamped with a faint "(droop wing eagle)H" over "(droop wing eagle)WaA 26". There is a faint, unreadable stamp on the underside of the stock wrist. Matching numbers on front sight, barrel bands, rear sight leaf and base, bolt stop, trigger guard, magazine floorplate and their screw heads, bolt handle, safety, and cocking piece. No visible import marks. Condition overall is very good, retaining approx. 70%-75% blue; showing general finish loss and toning; especially to the barrel bands, trigger guard/magazine floorplate, and buttplate. There is a fine 1.5" delamination crack to the top of the wrist behind the receiver tang, and another to right side of the buttstock; wood is otherwise very good, with scattered light marks. Action operates smoothly. Bore is bright with very good, defined rifling. Est.: $1,600-$2,200. (C&R)
