British Contract Smith & Wesson .455 Hand Ejector First Model (Triple Lock) Double Action Revolver, #3604, .455 Mark II cal., 6.5" pinned barrel, blue finish, checkered diamond center walnut grips with S&W medallions, round blade front sight, notched rear sight, color case hardened hammer and trigger, lanyard loop in butt. British proof marks on left side of frame and back of the cylinder. Barrel address is located on top of barrel, which has no other markings. Frame and yoke with matching assembly numbers (2758). Barrel, cylinder, yoke lock and extractor are numbered to the gun. Back of the right grip is hand numbered in pencil and matches the revolver. Shipped to Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co., purchasing agents for the British Gov't, Dec. 30, 1914; with factory letter signed by S&W Historian Roy G. Jinks. Letter does not specify any of the revolver's features. Condition is very good retaining approx. 70% original factory blue. Metal shows general age and wear. Losses and patina to sides of the barrel, top of frame, and backstrap accounts for much of the finish loss; backstrap shows additional frosting. Factory lettering and proof marks are clear. Hammer and trigger retain approx. 60% muted case colors. Grip checkering is primarily crisp with a few handling marks to the smooth borders, medallions show moderate toning from age. Action cycles smoothly and locks up securely. Very good bore, bright, lands and grooves are clearly defined, no frosting or erosion. Est.: $1,200-$1,500. (C&R/PPT)
