Antique British Enfield-Snider Two-Band Short Infantry Rifle, altered from a P-1853 Percussion Rifle to Cartridge Breechloader utilizing Snider's Patent, NVSN, .577 Boxer CF cal., 30.5'' round barrel with block-blade front sight, adjustable sliding-leaf rear sight, and right-side bayonet lug behind the muzzle, marked with numerous proof marks and ''25'' at left breech; right-hinged steel breechblock is marked outside ''Snider/Patent'' in an oval surrounding an ''S'' over an arrow, and ''H969'' inside; flat lockplate has a ''(large crown)'' behind the hammer and ''Tower/1875'' ahead; brass trigger guard has a chain-retained firing pin protector mounted at front; two iron barrel bands (front with sling swivel); two sideplate screws with brass ''eared'' escutcheons; oil-stained one-piece walnut stock has brass buttplate and nosecap, sling swivel at belly, and steel ramrod with grooved square-head tip. Condition is very good. Barrel and receiver show a dull, almost phosphate-type finish; hinged breechblock, lockplate and hammer retain bold case colors, the balance of the steel is overall gunmetal gray. Stock is solid and smooth with a few minor handling marks and pleasing grain and color. Action is smooth; bore is bright with light etching toward muzzle and deep rifling. Est.: $600-$900. (Antique)
