British Model 1853 Enlisted Cavalry Sword, the type that saw use in the Crimean Campaign in 1855 and were imported for use in the U.S. Civil War by both sides. The unmarked 35.25'' blade has a wide single fuller and is double edged for about 12'' near the tip. Iron three-branch guard with quillion, and riveted checkered leather grip panels on the through tang handle. Steel scabbard with two hanging rings. OAL is 41.75''. Condition is good, the blade having age graying and rust stains, with brighter areas showing through; no edge nicks or heavy pitting. The outer branch of the guard is broken, and there is a heavy pitted rust patina to the guard and pommel. Leather grip panels show age and scuffing, with a crack on one side. Scabbard has several dents and a dark pitted rust patina overall. Est.: $500-$700.
