British No. 8 Trials Bayonet for the Self-Loading Enfield Rifle, for the SLEM or Self-Loading Experimental Model 1 Rifle. The 8-1/8'' blade has a single wide fuller, with no visible markings on the blade itself. Guard has a faint stamp of a broad arrow and ''29'' on the edge, and ''15'' on the inside flat surface. Muzzle ring is 14.8mm in diameter, a little less than 5/8''. Wood grip panels attached with screws and split nuts. Pommel is marked with an ''H'' over ''C'' on the left side. Push button works well. Metal scabbard with round frog stud. Green woven frog with faint ink stamped markings. Condition is good, the blade showing a dark mottled age gray patina with light pinprick pitting in a few scattered areas. Guard retains most of its dark blued finish. Pommel has lost most of its blued finish and has some deep pitting on the beak of the bird's head. Wood grips are two different colors with scratches and small gouges. Metal scabbard shows scratches, scuffs, and minor losses to its black-painted finish; frog shows only light age. One of the rarest British bayonets, with only 2,400 produced by Poole in 1946. Est.: $300-$500.
