British T. Barclay Single Shot Underlever Rifle, NVSN, .450 cal., 28.87" barrel, blued finish, Jones underlever action, non-rebounding hammer, island lock, Birmingham black powder proof mark, no load or bullet weight markings, top of barrel at receiver and lock are engraved "T. Barclay", rose and scroll engraving on the action and lock, drift adjustable bead front sight, tangent rear sight with no graduations, barrel marked "Henry's Patent" under the rear sight, straight grip checkered walnut stock with lightly engraved steel buttplate, 14.25" LOP, non-adjustable trigger, engraved trigger guard with checkered grip rest, checkered walnut forend with wedge retainer and Schnabel horn end cap, and blank silver oval in bottom edge of buttstock. Condition is good, the barrel having a thinning and mottled brown finish; action, lock, and trigger guard show age graying, with only slight traces of case color in protected areas. Crisp engraving, some screws slightly marred, rear trigger guard screw has a broken head, and hammer screw may be an old replacement as it has no engraving. Bore is mostly bright with light frosting, strong lands and grooves; chamber has an area in the middle that has been recently machined and cleaned up. Stock is sound showing numerous dings, small depressions, gouges, scratches, and light wear, with a nicely aged oil finish. Checkering shows wear, minor gouges, and some flattened diamonds. There is a small loss to one side of the forend wedge. Buttplate shows a dark rust patina, with wear to the engraving and screws. Est.: $2,000-$2,500. (C&R)
