The 'Brown Bess' Rare Crimean War Era Tower Pattern 1842 Rifled and Sighted Percussion Musket. 39" barrel with front blade, and 1000 yd ladder rear sight. Brass butt plate, triggerguard, forend cap & ramrod pipes, the first being trumpet shaped, the lower two being barrel shaped. A Lovell's spring catch to secure the bayonet projects from the fore-end. Iron sling swivels. Lock plate marked"VR Tower 1845" (Queen Victoria) with crown/arrow proof. Numerous British proofs on rear of barrel. Barrel is secured to stock via three flat barrel tab keys, no bands or springs. Stock markings include two proofs behind the lower tang, "Holland" on the underside of butt stock, "L.C.R." stamp on right butt stock, "BO" under broad arrow on left butt stock, & some small letters on the left stock flat. Rifled bore appears very good, dusty, two-cock action is tight, markings are crisp/clear, wood is very good with the usual dings, some worm damage forward of the lock plate, nothing serious, brass furniture has a nice mellow patina, and the barrel has turn a blue/brown patina.
