'National Forest Service Centennial,' a Japanese made reproduction of the Winchester 1886 lever action saddle ring carbine chambered for .45-70 Government, and imported by Browning Arms Company out of Morgan UT & Montreal P.Q. Rifle is marked 'One of 2000,' and commemorates 100 years of the National Forest Service (1891-1991). Rifle features a blued finish, 22" round barrel, full-length magazine tube, pinned blade front sight, elevation adjustable sporting rear sight, external hammer with a serrated spur, and smooth curved gold-toned trigger. The checkered gloss high grade walnut furniture consists of a straight gripped shoulder stock with checkering at the wrist, checkered forend with a barrel band, and a smooth metal butt plate. A coin finish is applied to the receiver, and the engravings are gold accented. The receiver's right side depicts the 'Department of the Interior's Forest Reserve Ranger' symbol, and displays ribbons noting the 'U.S. National Forests Centennial 1891-1991.' The right side of the receiver also note that this rifle is 'One of 2000.' The left side of the receiver shows an engraving of President Theodore Roosevelt, and the U.S. Forest Service Department of Agriculture shield with the dates '1891 and 1991.' The original blued finish retained is approximately 99% with superficial handling blemishes, and a residue that seems to come off with CLP and elbow grease (residue is on the entire rifle). There are also some stains on the action lever, and receiver that may not come off. Metal displays no deformation, but there was a few small spots of rust observed (mostly on the barrel). Action is smooth and crisp, and the bore is bright with strong rifling. The walnut furniture is in excellent condition with a few extremely minor blemishes, but the wood is also covered with the mystery residue. The residue comes off easy providing the original gloss finish.
Condition is NRA Good.
