C.G. Bonehill Martini .45-70 Gov't NVSN
Vintage single shot tilting block sporting rifle features blued finish, checkered walnut stock & forend, 23" barrel, blade front sight, barrel mounted island rear sight with one folding and one rotating "L shaped" leaves (3 leaves total), cocking indicator, long under lever, checkered steel Niedner type buttplate. Receiver has checkered thumb rest depression, and is drilled and tapped at rear (for receiver sight?). Stocks are made from fancy figured walnut, show fiddle grain in butt, feature straight wrist with drop points. Receiver marked "Converted by C. G. Bonehill of Birmingham for the Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs", indicating the original conversion work was likely performed in the early 20th century. Barrel is caliber marked "45-70"; style of marking and condition argue for a later re-barrel after Bonehill's original work. Bore is very good condition. Retains 90% re-blued finish, showing blemishes to metal under the refinish (including some pitting), partial loss of edges of letters on receiver markings. Rear sight base has very good case colors. Wood is very good, with scratches and some light blemishes in finish. Small gap between forend and receiver shows a glimpse of a dowel spacer. Condition is NRA Very Good+ (rebuilt custom rifle) *** C&R Firearm ***
