The California Department of Fish and Game has selected the California Chapter Wild Sheep Foundation (CAWSF) to auction its two zone Marble/Clipper & South Bristol Mountains Desert Bighorn Fund-Raising License Tag at the 10th Annual Banquet and Fundraiser in Rancho Cordova. This permit represents one of California's premier desert bighorn hunting opportunities.

The Special Desert Bighorn Sheep Permit offered through CAWSF will be the last of two tags auctioned in California for the 2012/2013 season. The lucky winning bidder of this tag will be able to start his hunt November 3, 2012 and hunt through February 3, 2013 a month prior to the general season. This past season was proof that our efforts here are working, as the new state record was harvested by John Berens 187 1/8” along with the new state archery record harvested by Bret Scott 178 4/8”. Twenty-five of twenty-seven tag holders were successful in 2012. Let’s show our continuing commitment to CA sheep! 100% of the winning bid amount goes to the CA DFG dedicated wild sheep account.

This permit is subject to all existing conditions required for the take of bighorn sheep in California, including the requisite hunter orientation program identified in Section 362, Title 14, California Code of Regulations. The tag holder will be able to hunt up to one month prior to the opening of the general bighorn season and over a period of up to five and one half months, if desired. The permit is non-transferable and may be used only by the purchaser. Any resident or non-resident is eligible to bid on and receive this Special Permit. Previous purchasers are also eligible to bid on this Special Permit. The strong support for bighorn sheep conservation that has been shown by CAWSF and those individuals that have supported sheep management in California has contributed to the addition of new hunting opportunities.
