SPECTACULAR FIGURED ENGLISH WALNUT STOCK BY VICTOR STRAWBRIDGE; MADE FOR JIM FENDER W/ SCOPE. Cal. 30-06. S# 518587. Bbl. 24 1/2" number 2 weight, marked "MCGOWAN BARREL 30-06" at left rear. HVA push feed Mauser type left hand action (consignor states "Carl Gustav manufactured less than 200 before ceasing production in 1972.") still retains standard trigger & bottom metal. Bolt handle has been checkered in 3 panels. Rifle is fitted w/ Leupold 3x9 Vari-X IIC scope w/ crosshair & dot reticle in Buehler rings & bases. Rifle is stocked in a wonderful piece of exhibition quality English walnut w/ near perfect grain structure through grip into forend. Butt section is of feather crotch figure w/ a literal whirlwind of veining transfixing butt on both sides. Stock is by Victor Strawbridge, regionally noted gunsmith of Dover, NH, & measures 14" over checkered steel Neidner type buttplate w/ trap. Trap has space for storage of 4 cartridges. Victor's initials & "90" are visible stamped in wood. There is well done point pattern borderless checkering at grip & around forend. A checkered steel grip cap is fitted along w/ sling eyes on bottom of butt & forend. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: typed document written by consignor James Fender. CONDITION: metal parts retain essentially all of a teflon coating except bolt which has some minor staining on knob. There are a few minor marks in hand rubbed oil finish of stock, mostly on right side above trigger. Bore is excellent, mechanically fine. Scope has matte finish, optically clear. This rifle was made for noted gun writer James Fender & he states "This rifle has taken all North American game, except the big bears." (20-2398/MGM64). MODERN. $2,500-3,500.
