TO LIEUTENANT ROLAND H. SEEGER OF THE 15TH PENNSYLVANIA CAVALRY. Cal. 31. S# 203962. Oct. bbl. measures approx. 6". Marked on the top “ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT.”. 6 Shot roll engraved cyl. marked “COLT’S PATENT NO. 203962”. Blue & case colored finish w/ silver plated brass trigger guard & grip straps. Backstrap is engraved, “Roland Seeger, 511 N. 6th St. Philada.”. All parts including the wedge have matching serial numbers. Original 1 piece walnut grips. Lt. Roland H. Seeger served in Company I of the 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry from Nov. 1861 to Apr. 1863. He was born a Quaker in Philadelphia in 1838 and the family trade was carriage making. At the outbreak of hostilities, Seeger joined an independent cavalry company named the Anderson Troop. Many officers & men from the Anderson Troop were selected to become the core of the newly formed 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry. The 15th initially saw service at Antietam prior to formal training & selection of officers. They were later engaged near Nashville, TN during the Stones River Campaign & served primarily in the states of Tennessee & Kentucky prior to Lt. Seeger’s discharge in early 1863. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: correct original Colt case w/ fitted maroon velour interior. The case contains a 2 cavity signed Colt bullet mold, a Colt American eagle embossed powder flask, a tin of caps by Ely London, a nipple wrench, 7 rnd. & 3 conical bullets plus an original package of pistol cartridges w/ a label that reads in part, “6 Combustible Envelope CARTRIDGES… COL. COLT’S PATENT REVOLVING POCKET PISTOL…”. A lg. binder containing information on Lieutenant Roland Seeger & the 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry. CONDITION: bbl. retains 80+% original blue w/ a couple of minute dings around the wedge. Cyl. scene is quite sharp w/ 70% original blue showing some wear around the nipples. Frame & loading lever show vibrant case colors. Grips have nearly complete finish. Silver plating on backstrap is 85% intact. Engraving is sharp & easily read. There is minor wear around the base of the grips. Near excellent bore. Case shows light wear overall but has a crack that runs the length of the top near the hinge.
