CASED CONSECUTIVE PAIR of COLT 125th ANNIVERSARY
SAA REVOLVERS DOCUMENTED TO AUDIE MURPHY. BOTH: Cals. 45 Colt. Bbls. 7 1/2" with Colt blades (frame notched rears) plus "-125th ANNIVERSARY-S.A.A. MODEL .45 CAL.-" on left sides. Produced 1961 (first year of many various Colt commemoratives) marking 125th year of Model 1873; 7,390 units having serial range of 1AM to 7390AM with very few cased consecutively numbered sets offered. Colt Royal blue finishes plus gold plated parts of: half moon ejector rod heads, cylinder pins, hammers, triggers, backstraps, trigger guards and accents of smooth walnut 2 piece grips. Matching numbers on: cylinders, backstraps, trigger guards and backs of grips. Pair shipped on Sept. 13, 1961 to Lyles of Monahans, TX as Colt cased set. Pair is documented as belonging to Audie Murphy; subsequently willed collectively to his sons Terry and James (Skipper). Set was later sold by heirs (along with another Colt consecutive set) to Nudie Cohn of N. Hollywood, CA in 1976 (undisclosed amount) having sales agreement (notarized) signed by both Murphy sons. Significant portion of set's value attributable to prior documented Audie Murphy ownership. As coincidental aside, S# ends with "AM" (Audie Murphy's initials). UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copies of Murphy bill of sale and 2020 Colt research letter substantiating above information. Good to very good Mahogany presentation case by Colt having red interior of satin under lid and corduroy patterned red velvet in base. One latch is broken, some minor handling marks (mostly around bottom edges) and cardboard dividers under velvet need to be repositioned and reattached. CONDITION: unfired appearance with noticeable thinning on grip straps to point that base nickel plating shows. No visible turn lines on cyls. Bores, grips and all other aspects of revolvers are near excellent. 1). S# 4832AM. (23-4903/NW). 2). S# 4833AM. (23-4904/NW). BOTH CURIO. $6,000-9,000.
