CASED ENGRAVED GOLD-PLATED CARVED IVORY COLT MODEL

1860 FLUTED ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 44. S# 5252. Standard configuration. Bbl. 8" w/ one line New York address which is only partially discernible, 1 piece "antique ivory" grip w/ relief carved Mexican eagle on left in oval. Nimschke style engraving w/ fine punch dot pearled background in nearly full coverage including cyl. w/ crossed hatched ovals w/ punch dots, engraved hammer emulates sea creature. This revolver was once purchased by the US Government during the Civil War. Like other Civil War veterans, some took their service weapon to New York shop like Nimschke’s & had it decorated & engraved. This revolver also descended in the family of a Swede who fought in Mexican Revolution w/ Poncho Villa, early 20th century. This revolver really has the appearance of being gold plated in Mexico & seeing hard use. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: English mahogany casing has central medallion in lid w/ script initials “LB”, green baize lining compartmentalized gold plated eagle & panoply of arms flask, 2 cavity “Colts Patent” mold “44H”, pewter oiler, Ely cap tin, paper wrapped packet 6 “Colt Army” cartridges, 2 loose Ely 44 cartidges, steel headed cleaning rod & L shaped combination nipple wrench/screwdriver. Regardless of history this is a pleasing gaudy Mexican used gun. CONDITION: fair to good, all matching except grip which is unnumbered, number font on bbl. & arbor are different from rest of gun but appear old & original to use. Engraving & markings were worn when plated, Colt patent stamped inside cyl. flute is still crisp under engraving. Swivel in butt is newer addition. Certifiable antique ivory grips have smooth edge wear & high relief wear to Mexican eagle medallion. Mechanics are functional w/ well defined dark rifled bore. Casing is very good w/ folding handle in lid, lining is better than most sold. Accessories are all very good, gold plated 2 sided eagle w/ panoply of arms flask has gold paint restoration on sides. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19787/JS). ANTIQUE. $6,000-8,000.
