ROTTEN ROW, IPSWICH. Cal. 58. NSN. Bbls. 10 1/8". Harcourt worked at this address from 1797-1810, when these pistols were made. Swamped oct. bbls. w/ out patent breeches have London gun maker’s proofs at rears & engraved “IPSWICH” on tops. Locks w/ line bordered chamfered plates & rebated tails fitted w/ serpentine cocks, standard pans, bridled frizzens & roller feather springs w/ rose bud finials. European walnut stocks w/ flat faced bag grips extend almost to muzzles & are fixed to bbls. w/ 2 captive side bolts w/ out escutcheons. Iron trigger guards have stylized pineapple finials. Hickory ramrods w/ horn tips (one w/ steel worm on tail) mount through beaded pipes & matching thimbles. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: guns are housed in early style walnut case w/ dual hook closure. Ovolo molded top has early style folding brass handle, which is not flush mounted. Lg. ovoid key escutcheon is brass. Interior is relined in green felt. Case is possibly original as guns fit well. Reproduction Harcourt label is in lid. Case contains sm. unmarked copper bodied bag flask, steel oil bottle, ebony cleaning rod w/ horn tip & iron nut cracker type ball mold marked “24”. Mahogany covered compartments w/ bone knobs hold balls & flints. Also included is “The Gun Report” article on John Harcourt. CONDITION: bbls. cleaned to bright silver. Locks also cleaned have been toned back w/ heat. Stocks w/ old, possibly original finish show a number of marks & some cleaning, they appear sound. Furniture is reblued. Bores are very good to fine w/ some light pitting. Locks are fine. Case has new oil over old surface on exterior. Interior cloth replaced. Accessories are generally good. (01-19870/MGM).
