CHEMICAL CORPS M2A1 PORTABLE FLAMETHROWER IGNITION

HEAD. S# UT1535. Manufactured July, 1953. The portable flame thrower fielded by soldiers in World II and Vietnam is one of the most fabled devices ever utilized in combat. Its simple mechanics have always been completely overshadowed by its capability for sheer destruction. Anytime one is fielded at a military demonstration the lines of spectators are long and deep. Adding to its mystique of fable & lore is the powerful heat wave that can be felt by bystanders far behind and out of range of the operator, and always remains a vocal highlight of any personal demonstration. Capable of use with liquid fuel, or thickened fuel, they never fail to completely engulf their target in a massive stream of flame. This particular piece, is the ignition head (the business end) of the M2A1 which would be placed forward of the barrel, valves, hose & iconic tanks. It still wears the blue & brass ID tag marked w/ the following; "CHEMICAL CORPS U.S.A. / PORTABLE FLAME THROWER GUN M2A1 / 7-53 / SERIAL NO. UT1535 / LOT RUT 569-1". The trigger still moves freely under heavy spring tension. The latch operates correctly, locking the ignition shield tightly, as indexed by the outer case pin. The trigger rod moves freely. The spring assembly rotates freely w/ both inner & outer case pins present. CONDITION: this M2A1 ignition head appears extremely complete. All parts move freely. The ignition shield engages the threads positively and locks tightly Original painted finish is mostly absent w/ aluminum portion taking its natural dull grey finish and the steel ignition shield wearing a lightened combination of green, black, or patina. (02-17412/JZ). NON GUN. $75-150.
