SCHUETZEN RIFLE. Cal. 7mm. NSN. Bbl. 29 3/4". Martini action single shot Schuetzen rifle mfg. in Germany by Christoph Funk. Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked "CHRISTOPH FUNK IN SUHL" in gold characters towards the breech. Receiver, receiver tangs, lever, and buttplate tang exhibit skillfully executed decorative scroll engraving, with decorative engraving also present on the muzzle face. Bbl. exhibits a blue finish. Large Schuetzen style buttstock features checkering at the wrist, 2-circular checkered panels, just to the rear of the receiver, a large cheek rest, as well as a Schuetzen style buttplate. Smooth wood forend is embellished with a floral carved tip. Globe front sight, with large disc aperture rear sight, and double set triggers. Cleaning rod is absent. CONDITION: receiver, lever, and buttplate retain traces of their original case color hardened finish, exhibiting a dark mottled gray patina, with scattered spots of darker age related discoloration overall. Bbl. retains large amounts of its original blue finish, exhibiting mild edge wear and mild wear and thinning overall that shows through to a pleasing brown patina. Bright bore, exhibiting some scattered spots of light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, as well as some areas of discoloration, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable overall. (24-1146/MLW).
