CIRCA 1810-1830 EAGLE HEAD OFFICER’S SABER.
Overall length: 34 1/2". Blade length: 29 1/2". Blade has a single wide fuller with gold highlighted etching over the first 1/3 of the blade. Etching includes foliate & military motifs, including a federal shield and liberty cap. There is a “Warranted” mark at the base of the blade. Silver plated brass hilt with downturned quillon and small spade languets. Plain guard and reverse P knuckle bow. Well formed eagle head pommel. Diagonally carved bone grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray mottled patina. Traces of gold remain in the etching. No blued field is visible. Silver plating can be seen in the protected areas of the hilt. Grip has tight age cracks. (02-19230/BF). $400-600.
