CIRCA 1820-1845 EAGLE HEAD INFANTRY FOOT OFFICER’S
SWORD. Overall length: 34". Blade length: 29". Blade has a single wide fuller with etching over the first 1/4 of the blade. Etching includes military & foliate motifs. Gilded brass hilt with classical downturned guard & quillon. The guard features a spread-wing eagle on a neo-classical scroll form and the quillon has a simple engraved decoration. The scroll knuckle bow has a central lozenge with a classical arms motif. Eagle head pommel. 2 Piece wire wrapped bone grips. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has an overall dark patina. There is no gold or blue remaining on the blade. Hilt is a bit loose and the quillon is slightly bent. Grips show one small age crack and the wire is complete, though dislodged near the pommel.
