CIVIL WAR PERIOD CAVALRY SHELL JACKET IN SIZE 2.

A blue shell jacket with yellow trim on the collar, jacket body and cuffs. 3 Of the double bars on the collar are a slightly different color yellow but appear to be totally original to the coat. Possibly the factory reached the end of a roll of yellow trim and the next roll was a slightly different color. Jacket has 4 small size enlisted Yankee eagle buttons on the collar. There are 12 small size post Civil War New York cuff buttons down the front that were likely added by a post war New York militia unit. There are 2 small size enlisted Yankee eagle buttons on each cuff. Both pillows are present at the base of the back. Yellow sleeve trim has a moderate peak. Original coarse brown lining. Sleeves are lined in muslin. The top of the right sleeve lining has a very clear U.S. inspector's mark with a "2" size mark stenciled above. CONDITION: jacket shows reasonably light wear overall with some separation to the lining near the collar. There is some obvious resewing to the seams at the shoulder. (02-17728/BF). $2,000-2,600.
