CIVIL WAR UNION KEPI
Civil War Union Kepi: This is a standard issue kepi for the Yankee soldiers. The body has a nice shape to it and will display well. There is mothing to the blue wool material where the bill is sewn to the body. Also there is 1 ..." on the right side of the body where the wool rolls to the sweatband and a 3/8" strip of mothing on the left side, also where the wool rolls to the sweatband. In the bottom rear where the body is seamed is a 3/8" moth area. If displayed properly, mothy areas should be less visible. There are a couple of small moth holes above the chinstrap buttons. The chinstrap is in very nice condition and sewn to the kepi with two federal eagle/shield buttons. The front bill is in very nice condition and firmly attached to the body. Scratched on the underside of the bill are the letters J S. The top of the kepi has the infantry hunting horn and the letter C. Inside there is a full liner and the standard oil cloth sweatband. There is a label attached to the top stating "U.S. Army No. 5". Overall this is a very nice presentable example of a Civil War kepi that most likely has "seen the elephant".
