HI-POWER “OLYMPIAN” GRADE BOLT RIFLE IN .338 WIN. MAG. W/ LONG EXTRACTOR, SCOPE & CASE.
Cal. .338 Win. Mag. S# 9P49148. Bbl. 24". These scarce & desirable rifles were the top of the Browning line. They were made in a lg. variety of calibers w/ magnum calibers being fairly scarce. This 1969 production rifle has a 24" medium weight bbl. marked on right side w/ cal., S#, & “MADE IN BELGIUM”. There are 2 1/4" flourishes of well cut semi relief shaded acanthus scroll on breech end. Matte coin finished action w/ bright polished bolt, gold plated trigger & steel bottom metal w/ hinged floorplate is of the scarce long extractor variety. Receiver ring, floorplate, & trigger guard bow are engraved w/ big game animals suitable for this heavy cal. w/ moose in swamp on left side of ring, bugling elk on right & standing grizzly bear w/ mountains in background on floorplate. Balance of action & floorplate are engraved w/ shaded acanthus. Trigger guard bow depicts a snarling puma. Moose & bear scenes are signed by noted Browning engraver, J. Baerton. Puma scene is signed w/ initials "L.L." Oil finished stump figured American walnut pistol grip stock measures 13 3/4" over brown Browning white line pad. Stock features slight Monte Carlo, swept right hand cheekpiece, rosewood grip cap & forend tip w/ white line spacers. Gold rectangle in bottom of grip cap engraved “C.A.S.”. Stock is also fitted w/ 2 engraved recoil bolts. Checkering at grip & forend is very closely spaced & flanked at front & rear by relief carved acanthus scroll in stippled outline. Rifle is mounted w/ Browning 3-9x scope w/ crosshair reticle in steel Browning rings & 1 piece Browning base. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rifle is housed in tan Hartman case lined in faux fur containing instruction manual & a key. Factory letter supports rifle as found w/ oil finish, engraved initials & cal. Also included are 5 photocopied pictures of this rifle. CONDITION: “collector” grade, close to "as new" w/ a sm. number of minor handling & assembly marks in all fine factory finishes. Bright shiny bore, mechanically crisp. There is some flaking of gold on left side of trigger. Scope w/ some very slight marks, optically clear. Case is also very fine w/ a couple of minor rubs on exterior, compressions & very light soiling of interior fur. (21-3784/MGM). CURIO. $7,000-9,000.
