ACCESSORIES. Cal. 31. S# 31917. Bbl. 4" oct. w/ bead sight & New York address. 5 Shot rnd. cyl. w/ stage coach scene roll engraving. Blue finish w/ case colored frame & silver finished brass backstrap & sm. trigger guard. 1 Piece walnut grip. Bbl., frame, grip straps, cyl., & loading lever have matching numbers. 1852 Mfg. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 11 5/8" x 8 1/8" x 3 3/4" wooden box. Brass plate on lid engraved "JJ Archer". Box interior has paper lining w/ added dividers & lids. Box contains ceramic bottle, sm. pistol flask, steel dividers, antique wire frame glasses & 2 sm. dice. Also includes a folder of Wikipedia & internet printed information regarding the life & career of James Jay Archer. (Dec. 19, 1817 - Oct. 24, 1864). Archer was a lawyer & US Army officer during the Mexican-American War. He served as a Brigadier General for the Confederacy during the Civil War. Archer was the first general officer captured from Robert E Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. He was taken as prisoner on the first morning of the Battle of Gettysburg. CONDITION: bbl. & cyl. have faded to mottled gray brown showing sm. dents & light corrosion. Cyl. retains unusually clear scene. Frame retains sm. amounts of fading case colors in protected areas fading to gray showing surface corrosion. Grip straps retain 60% silver finish acquiring a dark tarnish in protected areas. Grips show light wear & handling marks. Butt of wood & metal shows numerous sm. dents. Bore retains strong rifling showing sm. spots of light pitting. (01-20059/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
