COLT 1860 ARMY RICHARDS CONVERSION REVOLVER.

Cal. 44 Colt CF. S# 395. Bbl. 7 15/16" with New York address. Standard model conversion, left side of barrel lug is stamped "US" and left side of frame is marked "COLTS" / "PATENT". Loading lever is removed and barrel lug is plugged. Manual extractor is mounted on right side. Six shot round rebated cylinder with naval scene roll engraving having "A" and "P" inspectors marks. Frame is fitted with conversion ring. Brass trigger guard has "A" inspection mark standing for Orville W. Ainsworth. Iron backstrap is cut for shoulder stock. Frame, barrel, barrel lug, grip straps, cylinder, cylinder arbor and wedge have matching serial number 395. Conversion serial number 70665 is found above serial number on frame, trigger guard and grip strap. 1 Piece walnut grip. Left panel has "OWA" Ainsworth cartouche. Total of about 9,000 conversions were produced from 1871-1878. CONDITION: barrel and cylinder retain some blue in protected areas with balance fading to brown. Frame and backstrap have faded brown appearance. Trigger guard has cleaned appearance. Grips show scattered handling marks having small chips at toe. Action is sound and in time. Lightly pitted bore retains sound gain twist rifling. (01-21597/DS). ANTIQUE. $5,500-7,000.
