COLT 1ST MODEL DRAGOON.
Cal. 44. S# 1442. Bbl. 7 1/2". This is an unusual configuration, which is possibly correct. 1st Models were not made to attach to shoulder stocks & they did not have rnd. trigger bows, but square back. This example has rnd., trigger bow, backstrap is cut for shoulder stock & there are additional 4 screws added to frame. S#s match throughout this gun. Fonts on bbl., frame, cyl., arbor, all appear to have correct early sm. en font. S#s on backstrap & trigger guard are larger but appear consistent w/ later production Colt. Bbl. S# stamped over tiny Colt number 2517. There is a sm. “70” stamped on bottom of bbl. at well & “31” stamped on loading arm. S# on cyl. is also stamped over 2517. The grips have penciled “1442” in channel & appear to retain traces of original Colt varnish. Wedge is numbered “971”. This is an unusual configuration, but most parts appear to be original Colt. CONDITION: good to very good overall. Markings all discernable as described, there is a dovetailed plug on bbl. lug through portion of address. Iron is a mottled gray overall w/ pitting, markings all discernable. Tiny traces of cyl. scene visible, 4 usable safety pins. Trigger guard retains about 1/2 of its silver plate. Grips are sound w/ traces of original factory varnish. Mechanics are fine w/ crisp, rifled bore. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19035/JS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-5,000.
