COLT MODEL 1861 NAVY CARTRIDGE CONVERSION.

Cal. 38 CF. S# 4505. Bbl. 7 1/2" rnd. w/ German silver blade sight & New York address. Conversion ejector. Loading lever slot is plugged. Six shot rnd. cyl. w/ naval scene roll engraving. Conversion ring w/ loading gate. Brass backstrap & triggerguard. Bbl., frame, grip straps, cyl. & loading gate have matching numbers. Wedge is unnumbered. Left side of frame has July 25, 1871 & July 2, 1872 patent dates stamped over previous "COLT / PATENT" marking. One piece walnut grips. Est. total of 22,000 produced in the mid-1870's. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to brown, showing scattered light corrosion. Cyl. retains 80% scene. Grip straps show faint traces of plated finish. Grips are slightly undersized showing heavy wear. Butt of grips & backstrap show numerous dents. Good mechanics. Pitted bore retaining intact rifling. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of James B.
