COLT PARKERIZED MODEL 1903 POCKET SEMI-AUTO PISTOL

REPORTEDLY BELONGING TO MAJOR GENERAL FREDERICK WHITNEY.
Cal. 32 Rimless (32 ACP). S# 569379. Bbl. 3 3/4". Mfg. 1943 (1903-1945); with parkerized finish starting 1942 (S# 554447-572214. Previously sold in October 2013 Julia Auction stating (at the time) this belonged to Major General Whitney who served in many theaters during WW-II; all with great distinction. Col. Robert Frederick formed the US-Canadian Special Service Force (forerunner of Green Berets) in July of 1942; General Whitney (then 1st. Lieutenant) was part of this initial unit. The 1962 movie "The Devil's Brigade " was based on these commando forces. The forces were part of the invasion of Kiska in the Aleutian chain, into Italian mountains for Cassiono and at Anzino beachhead. Later, Gen. Frederick commanded an airborne task force then an Infantry Division in France; he was on his way to Japan when they surrendered; the unit disbanded December of 1944. Brig. Gen Whitney was born on February 6, 1913 in Rockland, ME. At the end of his career he became (June 1970) the Deputy Commanding General, 6th. U.S. Army, Presidio of San Francisco, CA. This "U.S. PROPERTY" marked pistol has fully checkered walnut grips with silver medallions. It is a Type IV with magazine safety and no barrel bushing. Ordnance wheel stamp (done after finishing) on frame below rampant Colt on slide. MAGS: 1 very good to excellent 8 rd. with matching finish; "CAL 32 / COLT" on base. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: near excellent black garrison belt with keepers having 2 piece gold plated buckle; wreath about perimeter and symbol of the US at center. Very good to excellent black open topped drop loop holster with retention strap; stitched plus brass rivets & snap. Very good swagger stick made up with rings of corresponding colors of horn encasing a 13 7/8" dagger blade having Farsi markings near handle. Newspaper clippings and funeral program of Gen. Frederick. Iranian made photo album containing a photo of the ruler of Iran, Reza Shah Pahlavi and several black & white 8X10 photos of Brig. Gen. Whitney apparently inspecting an Iranian repair facility. CONDITION: some very light handling marks that are more prone to view due to matte finish of pistol. Very faint function wear on trigger. Overall, near excellent having appearance of very minimal firing. Grips are wonderful and the bore has a new appearance. (22-5648/NW). CURIO. $2,000-4,000.
