COMPOSITE RICHMOND 1855 TYPE MUSKET & BAYONET.
Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 40". This interesting gun appears to be a US M1855 musket fitted with an excavated Richmond lockplate & hammer. The barrel has no visible markings and has a front sight that doubles as a bayonet lug. The excavated lockplate & hammer are fitted together with a non excavated screw. The word “RICHMOND” can be discerned at the forward part of the lockplate. No other markings are visible. All furniture is iron with the exception of a brass nose cap. Ramrod is period but incorrect for this musket. The musket is fitted with a reproduction confederate sling. The bayonet is correct but appears excavated and has been matched to a scabbard that fits well. CONDITION: barrel & most all other iron parts show light to moderate pitting with a medium to dark gray patina. The lock & hammer show very heavy pitting. Lock does not function and is likely missing internal parts. Stock generally shows average wear with no major faults. Bayonet has an excavated pitted patina and its scabbard shows moderate wear. (01-22747/BF). ANTIQUE. $300-500.
