CONFEDERATE ARKANSAS BELT BUCKLE.

87.0 x 55.6mm. The rarest of all Confederate state buckles is the oval solder filled Arkansas State seal. Few examples are known and every reference book rates these as rarity 10. This buckle was excavated about 1990 in Knoxville, TN where Confederate troops fought and camped winter 1863-1864. There are only 6 documented survivors, 2 of which are excavated. This buckle has good collection history owned by prominent dealer/collectors: Nick Periut, Shannon Pritchard, Don Phillips, Rafael Eledge. Buckle accompanied by custom display casing mounted with plaques telling of its history. CONDITION: good to very good for excavated buckle, details of state seal all discernible and well defined, mottled chocolate brown patina with verdigris, minor rim damage on upper left edge not affecting aesthetic. Lead filled back holds one remaining belt stud, other broken as is the belt hook. Casing is fine. (02-17371/JS). $40,000-50,000.
