CONFEDERATE ENGLISH MADE S. ISAAC CAMPBELL BELT
WITH SNAKE BUCKLE AND ASSOCIATED HOLSTER. Belt is approx. 36" long & 1 3/8" wide. This is a rare Civil War period English made Confederate belt manufactured by S. Isaac Campbell & Co. of London. The belt features a 2" brass ring 6" back from the keeper & another 2" brass ring 8 1/2" back from the first. The snake style buckle is of typical S. Isaac Campbell form having a pinwheel central device. There are 4 rows of stitching that secure the doubled over leather of the keeper, the leather protective chape in back of the buckle & the 2" brass rings. The back of the chape is stamped, “S ISAAC CAMPBELL & CO 71 JERMYN ST LONDON” inside a tombstone shaped border. The holster is of an interesting form & design. It is approximately 14" long w/ a rounded brass closing finial & a long gently tapered flap. The flap is sewn to the body of the holster w/ 2 rows of stitching. The belt loop is attached at the top & the bottom w/ 3 brass/copper rivets. CONDITION: the belt & holster show overall moderate wear & remain quite solid. The markings on the belt behind the chape are quite legible. The belt is pliable & there is a sm. piece of modern leather attached to the belt 3 1/4" back from the second brass ring to stabilize a weak area. The holster has no notable damage or losses. The leather remains pliable & the holster shows minimal flexing & flaking. There is crazing to the surface area throughout most of the holster. PROVENANCE: From the Renowned Collection of Allen & Robin Wandling. (02-14000/BF). $3,000-4,000
