CONFEDERATE RIGDON & ANSLEY REVOLVER.
Cal. 36. S# 1854. Standard configuration of rare Confederate revolver made in Augusta, GA late 1863 or early 1864. This example conforms to other examples in this serial range w/ small number dies w/ broken “1” & “7”. Revolver has correct “CSA surcharge” on top of oct. bbl. housing flat. Matching serial numbers are found on all parts normally numbered w/ exception of wedge which is replaced & grips which are not numbered. This gun has a long collector history being first described to Confederate pioneer collector & authority William Albaugh in Dec., 1955. CONDITION: good to very good overall; surface was very carefully cleaned many years ago and has a matching mottled gray patina overall w/ scattered pitting. “CSA” surcharge & serial numbers are all discerned as can be seen in photos. There is no cryptic but there is “W” scratched on left side of trigger guard above rear trigger bow in same position that the standard stamped cryptic appears normally. Mechanics fine w/ good rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Kent Wade Collection 1955; Listed in Albaugh Confederate handguns, 1963; John Malloy Collection; John Mullen Collection 1976. (01-17442/JS).
