OFFICER’S SWORD. Overall length: 37 3/4". Blade length: 30 1/2". Single fullered blade has an unstopped fuller. Gilded brass hilt has “CS” between the 2 outside branches & is commonly called a "Floating CS" Staff & Field Officers sword. The underside of the guard has a rayed design around the blade coupled w/ fish scales on the short branch & oak leaves on the outer branch. Leather grip w/ brass wire wrap. The brass is typical, dark coppery brass as often seen in this & other Confederate sabers. The brass mounted leather scabbard has mounts of similar coppery brass. These swords were produced in Columbus, Mississippi. CONDITION: this example has a fabulous blade showing only slight areas of mottled discoloration to its light gray patina. The hilt has a deep, ancient, mustard red patina. The grip is a bit worn but nearly complete. Wire wrap is 100%. The leather body of the scabbard is quite flaked but is very solid. The scabbard mounts are complete & share the deep mustard red patina. A beautiful, visually attractive Confederate officer’s saber. (02-15049/BF). $17,000-19,000.
