CONFEDERATE TIN & COPPER BUGLE.
Originally from the Steve Mullinax collection. Wonderful locally made infantry horn or bugle that closely assimilates its regulation US cousin. Rarely are bugles seen w/ any Confederate association. This horn was in Steve Mullinax’s collection & sold from his estate. It originally came from an estate sale in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1987. I remember this horn hanging in Steve’s relic room surrounded by Confederate canteens w/ the same silk cord & tassels that was on it then. Horn measures 23" overall w/ a 4 1/2" bell. The loops & mouthpiece are made from soldered lapped over copper, the bell & last extension are made from soldered tin. Accompanying horn is another musical accessory being a over the shoulder belt w/ hook for snare drum, the drum is long gone but this rare Confederate leather accessory remained in Steve’s estate. CONDITION: good to very good overall, horn still plays well w/ scattered dents, dings & some newer solder joints between bell & loop. Copper has a deep olive/chocolate patina. Bell has iron patina. The leather drum sling is very good retaining all original stitching, iron snap hook is missing spring, roller buckle still has some japanned finish. (02-13843/JS). $2,000-3,000.
