CONFEDERATE “WOOD SCABBARD” CAVALRY SABER.

42" Overall, 36" blade w/ unstopped fuller. This sword is probably a product of Atlanta Saber Manufactory operated by Hammond Marshall & Co. This Atlanta firm was known to have made wood scabbards w/ “burned sheet iron” mounts that were rejected by Confederate government & these mounts fit that description. Each mount has a cast brass sword ring mount distinctive to this maker, single iron wire wrap, short brass ferrule & short stubby pommel cap. CONDITION: good overall, blade was broken & has professional weld repair about 9" from tip. Sword is rewrapped. Sword fits scabbard well which is missing tip of drag & the inserted throat of top mount. Wood scabbard body is scuffed but sound w/ few loose pins, remnants of old label, w/ partially discerned number probably from union trophy display which may account for the commemorative “C.S.A.” stamped on bottom of guard. (02-15802/JS). $3,000-4,000.
