COOPER & GOODMAN BIRMINGHAM PROOFED RIFLED MUSKET.

Cal. 577. NSN. Bbl. rnd. w/ oct. shank shortened to 24 3/4". Solder attached replacement blade front sight w/ original graduated leaf rear sight. Left bbl. flat has Birmigham, English proofs. Top bbl. flat & right side of stock have apparent merchant markings "GLUKMAN / 1862 / BIRMINGHAM". Right bbl. flat is marked "M / 180". Circle "L" marking is found on the right flat, left side of rear sight & buttplate peak. Lock is marked "N 3777" behind hammer w/ a crowned marking over "1864" date forward of hammer. Walnut stock is shortened to 2 band configuration to correspond w/ bbl. length. Toeline of stock has merchant markings "COOPER & GOODMAN". Joseph Rock Cooper & John D. Goodman were in partnership at 32 Woodcock Street, Birmingham, England 1857-1862. Brass buttplate & triggerguard w/ iron ramrod & fittings. Canvas sling on original swivels. Left rear of stock is marked "GD10". Top of comb has stamped marking that appears to be "VG" over an unidentified marking. CONDITION: bbl. & action finish is fading to brown patina showing scattered spots of finish loss & light corrosion. Stock has worn appearance w/ areas of finish loss showing numerous scratches, dent & marks. Sound lock. Tight spring. Bore is generally bright w/ strong rifling showing some light pitting towards muzzle end. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Jack Verret Sr. (01-20707/DS). ANTIQUE. $600-800.
