1903 BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE MANUFACTURED IN 1909 W/ MODEL 1905 BAYONET. Cal. 30-06. S# 395443. Bbl. 24" marked behind front sight “SA” “flaming bomb” “12-09” & “A”. Internet research indicates that the “A” used prior to 1913 indicated that a rifle so marked had been turned in for inspection & that the bbl. passed that inspection. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yards w/ volley notch. Elevation slide has vertical white lines above & below aperture. Sm. grooved dished elevation knob & lg. grooved dished windage knob. Blade front sight. Bolt is marked underneath safety lug w/ “S”. Bolt has sm. gas escape hole underneath. Extractor has gas escape hole. Safety & cutoff have serif letters. Smooth trigger. Matching high wood walnut stock set. Buttstock has single recoil bolt & is marked over trigger guard w/ boxed “J.F.C.” Marked under grip w/ faint encircled script “P” proof & tiny “15”. Stock tip is marked with tiny “s”. Smooth trap buttplate. Handguard made w/o clips & no sighting slot in hump. Handguard marked ahead of rear sight w/ “s”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel plated brass oiler in butt. Model 1905 bayonet w/ 15-7/8" fullered bright blade. Left Ricasso is marked “SA” “flaming bomb” & “1914”. Right Ricasso marked “U.S. & “S#”. Walnut grips w/ very shallow corrugations. Khaki canvas Model 1910 scabbard. Scabbard is unmarked. Belt hook is mounted in plain web tab. Russet leather tip. Bright blade has been sharpened & has spots of peppery oxidation throughout. Grips have moderate wear, handling marks & staining. Balance of metal turning gray & patina. Scabbard has light wear & staining. Leather tip has wear & scuffing but stitching is tight. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, scratches & handling marks. Markings are generally visible. Metal has mix of original blue, gray & patina throughout w/ wear & spots of fine oxidation. Dark bore is worn w/ considerable deep pitting throughout. (22-4173/RW). CURIO. $600-1000.
