Cal. 5.56mm. S# S3804. Bbl. 18" w/ flash hider. Post front sight w/ protective ears. Adjustable dual aperture rear sight. One of an 4,000 estimated Costa Mesa, California made Armalite AR-180 rifles made from 1969 until 1972. The majority of AR-180 rifles were produced by Sterling in England, making a Costa Mesa example more desirable. The AR-18 family was Eugene Stoner's last design w/ Armalite & was never officially used by any military. However it would be infamously used in Northern Ireland by the Provisional IRA. Despite failure as a military arm, the weapon would influence future military rifle designs such as the British SA-80, the Japanese Type 89 & German G36. Parkerized finish. Black synthetic forend, pistol grip & folding butt stock. Bottom mounted sling swivels w/ USGI style canvas sling. MAGS: 1-20 rd. marked Armalite AR-18. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: black muzzle cap. CONDITION: handguard shows some light staining on bottom, furniture otherwise shows scattered light dings & handling wear. Metal retains 92% parkerized finish w/ scattered light silvering & edge wear. Very good bore. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Terrance McCarty. (24-446/MJC). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
