DONATION: Frank & his wife Sue have made several trips to Mongolia hunting Argali sheep, ibex, and birds. Second only to the big argali rams, the Siberian ibex has struck Frank’s fancy the most, being particularly impressed by the adult billy’s powerful muscles bulging threw their beautiful multicolored hide and their ability to climb high into the vertical cliffs of the Mongolian mountains! In this sculpture Frank tried to capture these unique features of this gorgeous critter while he scales the crags; hence the title “Critter of the Crags”.
Frank brought home a complete life-size ibex skeleton from Mongolia. Using that skeleton as reference, he carved a wooden one-fifth size miniature skeleton that he used as an armature for sculpting the piece. With wire at the joints, he moved the miniature skeleton to the desired position. Using oil-based modeling clay, he replicated the muscles and hair texture for the original sculpture. The accuracy of the joints and length of bones made this piece one of the easiest to model, enabling him to work the sculpture with ease.

Size with walnut base: 35” tall by 13” wide by 12 deep. Weighs a little over 45 pounds.

VALUE: $9,500
