COLT FIRST GEN SAA REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 331389. This exquisite silver finished revolver is the work of Master Engraver Cuno Helfricht, head of Colt's engraving department from 1871-1921. The 75% coverage engraving features vine type foliate scroll on the sides of frame and barrel with beaded backgrounds. Loading gate and left side bolster have semi circular border and scroll designs. Upper & lower areas of the frame, backstrap, butt and trigger guard have complimenting scroll highlights with ornate zigzag and punch dot borders. Elegant and scarce factory 2 piece pearl grips with Rampant Colt medallions. 4 3/4" Barrel with blade sight. Six shot fluted cylinder. Barrel, ejector housing, frame, grip straps and cylinder have matching serial numbers. Front left side of trigger guard has triangular "VP" final inspection proof. Back left side of trigger guard is stamped "1". Inside of loading gate is stamped "45". Back of frame has assembly number "669". Colt Firearms Industry letter stating the following: "Serial Number: 331389 / Caliber: 45 / Barrel Length: 4-3/4 inches / Finish: Silver / Type of Stocks: Pearl / Factory Engraved: Yes / Shipped to: Shelton Payne Arms Co. / Address: El Paso, Texas / Date of Shipment: August 28, 1915 / Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 1". CONDITION: this exceptional revolver retains most of its silver finish showing some edge & carry wear & having acquired a mild age related tarnish that graces the gun with a pleasing antique appearance. Right grip panel is chipped at toe. Action is in time. Ratchet wear prevents hammer from holding at full cock on one chamber and causes an extremely light trigger pull on another.
