ENGRAVING & GOLD INLAY & STRIKING CLASSICALLY STYLED STOCKS W/ SCOPE. Cal. 22 Hornet. S# 04513NR2L7. Standard barreled action w/ 24" octagon bbl. has been augmented into this attractive creation. Action is engraved w/ near full coverage exceptionally well cut & nicely shaded varying sized scroll. Receiver ring & top part of action has central whirls & outlines of this scroll inlaid in gold. Sides of action are also inlaid w/ precious metals depicting game animals w/ bulino detailed gold bugling elk on left side & bounding platinum timberwolf on right. Opening lever has gold wire inlay on sides & more scroll engraving in front of Browning elk logo in gold. All of this fine engraving appears to be the work of Thierry Duguet (no signature found). Bbl. & action are fitted w/ Burris scope mounts & rings engraved to match. Rings hold a Leupold Vari X-III 4.5-14x scope w/ duplex reticle. Buttstock of exhibition grade wildly marbled & figured European walnut by Darwin Hensley measures 13 7/8" over blued steel buttplate which is unengraved. Stock features sm. shadowline right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering at grip & line border gold inlaid skeleton style grip cap. Matching forend w/ ebony tip attaches to bbl. w/ engraved screw through engraved oval escutcheon. CONDITION: very fine, showing limited use w/ a few minor marks in all wood & metal surfaces. Forend shows a bit of carrying wear. Scope is also very fine, optically clear. PROVENANCE: From the Frederic W. Thrane Collection. (20-2450/MGM41). MODERN. $3,000-5,000.
