WITH SCOPE. Cal. 7mm Rem Mag. S# 341649 (left side of receiver ring seen when metal removed from stock). The 24" medium weight sporter barrel without sights is marked "Barrel by Shilen 7mm Rem. Mag." on left side. Commercial model 98 Mauser action with solid side wall has square bridge and raised square on receiver ring as developed in the 1930's to facilitate scope use. Sidewall is marked "MAUSER-WERKE A.G. OBERNDORF a. N.". There are no proofs or S# visible without disassembly. Left side of receiver ring below wood is stamped "GERMANY" and with newly applied S# which matches last three digits of number on barrel by Shilen. Bolt has had handle lowered and a Buehler safety has been added to bolt shroud. Two stage trigger is retained and an adjustable stop screw is added at rear. Commercial type bottom metal has hinged floorplate with release button in trigger guard bow. The number "4" is stamped on rear of magazine well, bottom of recoil lug on action and is also found on cocking piece and extractor. Action has been fitted with Redfield scope bases. Classically styled pistol grip stock made of very finely figured and well marbled European walnut measures 14" over thin brown basketweave rifle pad. Stock features classic English style shadow line cheekpiece, recoil bolt, steel grip cap, ebony forend tip and sling studs. Borderless point pattern checkering is very well executed and wraps over top of grip and around forend. Rifle is mounted with Leupold M8-6X scope with crosshair and dot reticle in Redfield rings. CONDITION: exceptionally fine as custom made. Metal retaining essentially all custom blue finish with a few minor scratches. Wood is also very fine but with some fairly deep scratches on top left of comb. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. Scope shows some old scratches and marks on exterior. Optically good. A good looking rifle in a classic long range caliber. (22-5849/MGM). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
