Cased Set of French Gosset Dueling Pistols, individually numbered 1 and 2, .54 cal., 8'' octagonal Fine Twist barrels marked ''Fourni Par / Gosset / A Paris'', case colored locks marked ''Fni Sar Gosset / a Paris'', with lightly decorated floral motif to hammers and lockplates, floral spays to fingerrest triggerguards. Barrel flats marked ''1'' and ''2'' respectively in applied gold; coat of arms escutcheons at top of wrist area are similarly numbered. Carved and checkered walnut halfstocks with floral motifs at exaggerated butt caps. Finely executed twin swans grace right sideplates. Case colored steel butt caps are decorated with fine border and circular fern leaf engraving. Green baize-lined French-fitted walnut case contains a fine horn powder measurer, combination turnscrew/pin punch, oiler, finely made articulated case colored bullet mold, large and small hammer. Dating from the 1820s-1840s. Condition is very good. Pistols show some thinning and toning to finish. Pistol #1 shows light fissure emanating from forward triggerguard post. Case colored components with some toning and graining. Stocks show little use. Actions are crisp, micro-groove bores are fine. Case accoutrements show light use; large hammer with moderate knackering to both faces. Interior of case with losses, separation to interior of lid, and some light mothing; exterior of case with scuffs and scratches to dark varnish, some separation to edges, and tape residue that should easily clean.
